Hello,

My name is Alex and im from Oceanside, Ca. Im a 22 yr old that was diagnosed with coats disease at the age of 5. Until a couple months ago it had never bothered me having a blind, lazy eye(right one). Now, i find myself wanting to have this eye pointing straight(so when i take pictures, go out with friends i can look someone in the eyes, etc). Does anyone know of any doctors that are able to do this without any risks? also, i would love to see pictures of anyone with a prostetic eye...although i would like to live with the one i have, i like to keep my options open.

Please help me out! Thanks.

Hi Alex. My son Jordan is 12 and has Coats'. His left eye would not track properly with the right and progressively got worse. He had muscle corrective surgery nearly three years ago. It was very effective and the eyes were perfectly in sync for a good two years after. Over the last few months the eye seems to be "wandering" again. Our surgeon explained that it needs to be repeated every few years because the muscle is like a rubber band that stretches then needs to be tightened again. The surgery was really no big deal - performed as an outpatient with almost immediate results. Good luck!

Hey guys,
my name is houda, i have an 18 month old daughter. She has coats disease in her right eye, and on top of that she has +10.5 in that same eye, she has amblyopia and lazy eye. She has been treated since she was 3 months old, i urge everyone who has or sees any problems ith their childrens eyes to immediately take them to the doctor. her pediatrician kept telling me nothing was wrong with her eyes the first 2 months, until i stood up to him and said if he didnt give me a referral for an eye doctor for my daughter, i wasnt leaving :) haha... luckily i got her in time, she's had 2 laser eye surgies with the top doctore in California, Dr. Khaled Tawanzy, she is improving tremendously well, and her coats disease is 90% gone, thank god, she is now patching and wearing her glasses normally...
i just wanted to share that story with you guys,
thanks for listening and good luck!! :)

Similar situation: 22 years old, diagnosed and treated at 5. Blind spot in my right eye. It's a "lazy" eye, and is getting worse all the time.

It never bothered me growing up, I don't get down about it, but it does make people I meet uncomfortable. That makes me feel guilty.

It's gotten bad enough now that some people talk down to me. Not intentionally, but because they think it has something to do with me being "slow". LOL.. I don't understand the correlation, but two people in the last few months have told me that the "whole eye thing" made them think I was stupid when I met them the first time.

Now that I'm an adult, I feel an increasing desire to get it straightened...

Hi i sometimes feel the same. I am a 24 year old girl so i tend to wear quite a lot of eye makeup and never look face on in photos.I find people either notice my eye straight away or not for years!

I do get nice comments mostly saying its unique and pretty too, as mine eye is bright green and my good eye is dark green. So it's not all bad. Think we may just be more concious of it ourselves ;)

hi I'm 15 and I'm actually able to do this trick with my blind eye that moves it by itself intentionally though i sorta make my vision go kinda fuzzy my friends love it too either that or they think I'm under the control of Satan and they flicked me with holy water the next day no lie either in fact they are still doing it I'm still wondering were he gets the holy water

Hello!!
I can totally relate with all the things said here!! I have Coats since 10 on formal records, but I think I lost my vision at around 5 or less.I self discovered the problem!(no one belived me)! Now I'm 22... doing fine, more confident than ever! I was wondering if anyone is interested in having a penfriend...?? Boy or girl doesnt matter! Would be interesting to communicate to someone that has endured same things in life as me... When I was small I thought I was alone... rare case with this weird disease. So, talking to someone which also has it would be a great "catharsis". If anyone feels the same way!! Let me know!:)
