And all I can offer is words of encouragement. My son can see out of his left eye the way we "see out of our thumb". Those were his Dr's words. He has not been able to see out of his eye since 2 due to detached retina. My son went on to play hockey, pitch in little league & Babe Ruth, drives cars and motorcycles. In fact the only thing he cannot do is join the armed forces. He has never known anything different so he does not even see it as any type of handicap. He is very fortunate in that even though he sees absolutely nothing out of the left eye it still tracks right along with his right eye. You really cannot even tell that there is a difference unless he is very tired. Now also keep in mind while he was playing baseball etc when he was small we made him wear sports goggles to protect his good right eye. I guess I am just trying to let you know that it is not the end of the world, and nothing really brought that home to us as when we brought him to Boston for a second opinion and we saw children who were in wheel chairs and on oxygen and would never, ever lead what we call a normal life. There were no websites like this when my son was diagnosed, I am glad I found it so that I could tell you his story of encouragement.
Thank you for taking the message for what it was. I remember even now, so many years later, how scared I was and how afraid I was for my son's future. I just wanted to let it be known that there is a future...a full and wonderful future.
