I just read a post by Jacobs parents that your son's eye is permanently dilated-is that normal? My son's eye seems to be still be slightly dilated 2 months after surgery. I read that this can take up to 3 months to go away completely. Is permanent dilation normal/common? Is light sensitivity the only side effect of that? We see his Dr. again in about a month, but I thought I would see if you could help with these questions in the meantime! Thank you for your time, I'm so relieved to have found this site!

My son is 16 now and had laser surgery back when he was 5. His pupil stayed dialated permanately. He had little to no vision at the time of surgery. They also said they were not sure if it would stay like this but it did scar like this. The only benefit that it had was that they could always see what was going on inside the eye. Cosmetically it makes it a little more noticable.

Hello, My son has had coats since he was 4 he is now 17. His bad eye is dilated also but that is not from any drops. The eyes of people with coats dilate as little to no light is getting in.

Hi,

My son's eye has been dilated more than twenty times in the process of diagnosing his coat's disease. Now we notice that his pupil size are comparitively bigger than the normal pupil size. I think this is the side effect for more use of dilating drops.

My sons pupil is permanently dialated and iregular in shape - it is all side effect of lazer. He has no vision in that eye,but if he had,his eye would be more sensitive to light.
