My son's left eye (his coats eye) has been floating (lazy eye systoms) for about 6month now and is getting worse. Does anyone else have this problem?

Although we have not had to deal with lazy eye symptoms yet, our doctor indicated it was possible that those symptoms would develop in our son over time. She said that a pediatric opthamologist would be able to perform a "muscle tightening" type of surgery that would help or even alleviate this problem. Have you spoken to your doctor about it?

Yes we have, and what I know about it (which is not much) is that they would have to do alinement surgery on his eye which may take several sergeries. And at this time I'm not sure is the right thing to do.

Hi there My son Jordan is 14 and was diagnosed with Coats' at 18 months of age. He has had many laser treatments over the years and his eye also tended to "wander" and this definitely worsened as he grew. It was particularly noticeable when he was tearful or tired. Our surgeon performed the muscle tightening surgey when he was about 10. The results were great and the eyes tracked almost perfectly for a couple of years. But his doctor explained that the muscle is like a rubber band that stretches over time and may need re-adjusting again as he grows. He also said that there is an initial window period when you achieve the greatest results. I was reluctant to hold off because of that. Now however, the "wandering eye" is back. This time we all discussed it with his doctor and because it is purely for aesthetic reasons, let our son make the final decision. He has opted not the have another muscle correction at this stage and seems confident enough to live with things as they are. He even mentioned that he has an online nickname of "Crazy Eyes" and he is quite proud of that...lol. He knows that at any point he can have the corrective surgery again if he chooses. Hope that helps! Best wishes, Shandre

Hi Shandre, I'll look out for these symptoms as well. I'm really grateful for you sharing these things here. It gives me - and I'm sure a a lot of others - infomration that our doctors may not always give us. In time, if my son needs help coping, may I turn to you and your son for some more experiences? He's already asked me so many times: why did this have to happen to me? And sometimes, he's very cranky and I'm just not able to give him an answer that satisfies him. That's why reading these experiences help so much.
